Chin Filler

qd chin filler

Chin filler uses a firm hyaluronic acid (HA) gel to project and balance the chin. Adding volume at the tip can lengthen a short chin, improve the side profile, and help the lower face look more proportioned to the nose and lips. It can also soften the small dips beside the chin. Placed deep against the bone, a firmer gel gives structure and support. At QD Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, we assess your profile first, then decide the product and amount. A session usually takes about 15–30 minutes with little downtime. (Results vary by individual.)

is this for me

Who it’s for

Even if none of these describes you, we will look again at the consultation.

  • A short or receding chin you would like to project
  • A side profile you would like to balance with the nose and lips
  • A rounded chin you would like to define slightly
  • Small dips beside the chin (prejowl) you would like to soften

The chin works together with the jawline and the whole profile, so we plan it in balance with the lower face. Very large changes may be better suited to surgery. Suitability is confirmed during consultation.

start with your concern

Before you pick a treatment name, start with the cause of your concern.

Even a treatment with the same name takes on a different role and scope depending on your current structure, the change you want, what you have had before and the recovery time you have.

  • Where you are now, and where we start

The length and projection of the chin and the proportions of the lower face

  • The change you want, the impression you keep

The chin works together with the jawline and the whole profile, so we plan it in balance with the lower face. Very large changes may be better suited to surgery. Suitability is confirmed during consultation.

  • How it differs from similar options

These all add projection or structure to the chin, but they work in different ways and suit different goals. Very large changes may be better suited to surgery. The right choice is decided after we assess your profile.

  • Health information and recovery schedule

Little downtime; most people return to daily activities the same day. Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising may occur and usually settles within about 1–2 weeks. Avoid pressing on the chin, and skip saunas and intense exercise for a day or two as we advise.

the principle

How it works

Rather than a still photograph, we look first at expression, overall proportion and vascular anatomy, then set the product, the injection layer and the amount conservatively.

HA filler adds volume where it is placed and is gradually absorbed over time. For the chin, the doctor usually places a firm, high-support gel deep against the bone at the tip (pogonion) to project it forward or downward, and may use a cannula in the layer above to smooth the surface and soften the grooves beside the chin. Because the chin moves less than the lips, a firmer gel here tends to hold its shape and last well. HA can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if an adjustment is needed. Product and amount are matched to your profile. (Results vary by individual.)

Chin Filler

How it works

  • A firm gel for structure

Hyaluronic acid binds water and adds volume, and for the chin a firmer, higher-support gel is chosen so it holds its shape against the bone and gives the tip projection.

  • Placed deep at the chin tip

The gel sits deep against the bone at the tip (pogonion), delivered by fine needle or blunt cannula, with a smoothing layer above to soften the small grooves beside the chin.

  • Immediate but temporary

Projection shows the same day because the gel physically fills the space; over the following months the body gradually breaks the HA down, so the effect is not permanent.

  • Adjustable and reversible

Because it is HA, the result can be added to gradually, or dissolved with an enzyme (hyaluronidase) if an adjustment is ever needed.

the qd standard

The same treatment, never the same plan.

Rather than a fashionable name or a fixed package, we weigh the structure found at examination, safety, recovery and the limits within one plan.

  • DIAGNOSIS FIRST

    Cause before name

We first separate out the tissue and the function behind your concern.

  • LESS, PRECISE

    Only as much as needed

Rather than an excessive change, we plan the smallest scope with a clear role.

  • HONEST LIMIT

    The limits, explained too

We explain the change you can expect, the alternatives, individual differences and the risks.

What the procedure is like

  1. Consultation and assessment of the profile and jawline
  2. Cleansing, marking and topical numbing for comfort
  3. Firm HA placed deep at the chin tip, smoothed with a cannula if needed
  4. Review of the profile and aftercare guidance

Time: A session usually takes about 15–30 minutes.

Plan it with our doctors

Please read this before treatment

  • Little downtime; most people return to daily activities the same day.
  • Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising may occur and usually settles within about 1–2 weeks.
  • Avoid pressing on the chin, and skip saunas and intense exercise for a day or two as we advise.

Safety & considerations

Possible reactions

  • Temporary swelling, redness or a feeling of firmness
  • Tenderness or bruising at the injection points
  • Small lumps or slight unevenness, which usually settle or can be smoothed
  • Very rarely, filler affecting a blood vessel — this needs prompt medical attention

When to take extra care

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding — let us know at consultation
  • Active skin infection, inflammation or a breakout in the treatment area
  • A known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine
  • Previous filler, an implant or surgery in the area — tell your doctor so placement can be planned
  • A bleeding tendency or blood-thinning medication — tell your doctor

Whether chin filler suits you, and the right amount, are confirmed during consultation; very large changes may be better suited to surgery. Effects and their duration vary by individual, and side effects may occur. We explain the warning signs — unusual pain, or skin turning pale or dusky — so you know to contact us promptly.

what to expect

What to expect over time

A general guide to how the days and months after treatment usually unfold. Results vary by individual.

  1. DAY 0

    Treatment day

Projection is visible immediately. Mild swelling, redness or tenderness is common, and the chin can look fuller or firmer than the final result at first.

  2. DAY 1-3

    Early settling

Most swelling eases and any bruising begins to fade. Makeup and normal skincare can usually resume as advised.

  3. WEEK 1-2

    Settled result

Swelling resolves and the true profile and chin shape become clear. (Results vary by individual.)

  4. 12-24 MONTHS

    Duration

A firm gel in this deep, low-movement area often lasts around 12–24 months, varying with the product and your metabolism. (Results vary by individual.)

  5. TOP-UP

    Review & maintenance

Your doctor reviews the result and, if appropriate, discusses timing for a top-up based on your profile.

before consultation

Before you decide, the questions people always ask

  • When the chin is short or set back, the lower face can look blunt in profile. Bringing that point forward tidies the side line so the face reads slimmer. The difference shows far more from the side than from the front, so we suggest keeping a profile photo beforehand and comparing afterwards.

  • Projecting the chin forward is not the same as extending it downward. Working too much downward makes the face look longer, so we put the weight on the forward direction and decide while looking at the proportions of the whole face. If a longer-looking chin is what worries you, please tell us at the consultation before we begin.

  • If the chin muscle tenses often, the filler can shift or the surface can look uneven. In those cases we sometimes consider addressing the strength of the muscle at the same time. If you get a pebbled, dimpled texture on your chin, we check that area together during the examination.

  • Filler needs no incision, lets you see the result straight away and can be reversed, but it lasts only for a set period. An implant holds for a long time, though it involves surgery and the risks that come with it. We put both side by side against how much change you want and how long you want it to last.

  • The two are often planned together. Filler handles the length and direction of the chin, while toxin handles the muscle that makes the jaw look angular from the side, so their roles are different. Doing both on the same day makes judgement difficult because of swelling, so it is better to leave an interval and decide the order.

  • Look at the examination and the plan rather than the treatment name. First, what the clinic checks before deciding — at QD Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, the first thing we look at for this treatment is “The length and projection of the chin and the proportions of the lower face”. Second, whether it explains why it recommends that scope and method, compared with the alternatives. Third, whether it reviews your progress with you when results are expected. Our doctor goes through these three points at consultation before the treatment is decided.
