Hyperhidrosis Botox 100u

qd hyperhidrosis botox

Hyperhidrosis Botox 100u is a treatment that reduces sweating by placing 100 units of botulinum toxin shallowly, in divided portions, into the skin of areas that sweat excessively, such as the underarms, hands or feet. It is not an injection that changes shape, but one that lowers the activity of the sweat glands. QD Clinic first hears about the extent of your sweating and how it affects daily life, and sees whether this method suits that area.

Treatable areas

  • Underarms
  • Hands
  • Feet

Hyperhidrosis Botox 100u is available at QD Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, Korea.

is this for me

Who it’s for

Even if none of these describes you, we will look again at the consultation.

  • Underarm sweat leaves marks on your clothes and makes choosing clothes difficult
  • Sweaty palms make handshakes, writing or using devices uncomfortable
  • Sweaty feet make the inside of your shoes wet or slippery
  • Topical antiperspirants haven’t been enough

Hyperhidrosis Botox doesn’t remove sweat glands, so sweating returns once the effect wears off. If you sweat heavily all over, examining the cause comes first.

start with your concern

Before you pick a treatment name, start with the cause of your concern.

Even a treatment with the same name takes on a different role and scope depending on your current structure, the change you want, what you have had before and the recovery time you have.

  • Where you are now, and where we start

Where you sweat — underarms, hands or feet — and how much it disrupts your daily life

  • The change you want, the impression you keep

If you sweat all over your body or sweating has suddenly increased, other causes need to be looked at first, so we ask when it started and where it occurs.

  • How it differs from similar options

The skin of the palms and soles is thick and sensitive, so injections can be more painful than in the underarms; we explain this first.

  • Health information and recovery schedule

Rarely, injections in the hands can temporarily weaken grip, so we check whether your work involves delicate use of your hands.

the principle

How it works

Sweat glands also respond to nerve signals. Hyperhidrosis Botox reduces those signals.

Sweat glands produce sweat when they receive a signal (acetylcholine) released from nerve endings. When botulinum toxin is placed in the shallow layer of skin where the sweat glands are, this signal decreases and sweating in that area is reduced. In the US, Botox is approved for severe underarm hyperhidrosis that is not adequately managed with topical treatments, and the approved dose is 50 units per underarm. The hands and feet are areas where doctors use it on their own judgement outside that approval.

How it works

  • Into the shallow layer of the skin

It is placed not in muscle but in the shallow layer of the skin where the sweat glands are. That is why the injection points are divided into a dense grid.

  • Finding where you sweat

If needed, a test applying iodine and starch shows the sweating area by colour, and the injections are placed within it.

  • The underarm dose

The underarm dose in the US approved labelling is 50 units per side, 100 units for both. This is the same amount as the 100u used in this treatment.

  • More care for hands and feet

Injections in the palms and soles hurt more than in the underarms, and in the hands they can affect grip strength. How much can be covered with 100u is decided by looking at the size of the area.

the qd standard

The same treatment, never the same plan.

Rather than a fashionable name or a fixed package, we weigh the structure found at examination, safety, recovery and the limits within one plan.

  • DIAGNOSIS FIRST

    Cause before name

We first separate out the tissue and the function behind your concern.

  • LESS, PRECISE

    Only as much as needed

Rather than an excessive change, we plan the smallest scope with a clear role.

  • HONEST LIMIT

    The limits, explained too

We explain the change you can expect, the alternatives, individual differences and the risks.

  1. Hearing about your sweating

We hear when it started, where and in what situations you sweat, and which antiperspirants you have tried.

  2. Choosing the area and coverage

We decide on the underarms, hands or feet and mark the area where you sweat.

  3. Injection and progress

For several weeks after the injection, we look at the change in sweating and decide the next timing.

What the procedure is like

  1. Consultation and choosing the area
  2. Confirming the sweating area and marking a grid
  3. Dense injections into the shallow layer of the skin
  4. Pressure, then aftercare guidance before you leave

The time differs depending on the area and coverage, and will be explained when you visit.

Plan it with our doctors

Please read this before treatment

  • You can go about your day as usual on the same day.
  • On the day, don’t apply antiperspirant or remove hair at the injection sites, and avoid saunas as well.
  • If numbness or weakness continues after hand or foot injections, let us know.

Safety & considerations

Possible reactions

  • Pain, redness or a small bruise at the injection points
  • A feeling of slightly increased sweating elsewhere
  • Temporary reduction in grip strength after hand injections
  • Occasionally, headache

Please tell us first if

  • You sweat all over your body or it has suddenly increased recently
  • You have an infection or eczema at the injection sites
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a condition affecting the junction between nerves and muscles
  • Your work depends on hand strength, such as playing an instrument or precision work

Heavy sweating may also be caused by another condition, so we check the cause first. If you lose a lot of strength after hand or foot injections, or swallowing or breathing becomes uncomfortable, contact us right away. Effect and duration vary from person to person.

what to expect

What to expect over time

A general guide to how the days and months after treatment usually unfold. Results vary by individual.

  1. Same day

    Needle marks

Small bumps and redness may remain at the injection points.

  2. A few days to 2 weeks

    Sweating starts to decrease

You begin to feel that you sweat less. The timing differs from person to person.

  3. Several months

    Lasting effect

How long the reduced sweating lasts differs by area and person. (Results vary from person to person.)

  4. When sweating returns

    Consultation for the next injection

When sweating increases again, the next injection is decided then.

Sessions & results

Hyperhidrosis Botox temporarily lowers the activity of the sweat glands, so sweating returns once the effect wears off. When to repeat it is decided not by date but by how much the sweating has come back. (Results vary from person to person.)

before consultation

Before you decide, the questions people always ask

  • The underarm dose in the US approved labelling is 100 units for both sides combined, so for the underarms you can think of it as covering both sides. For the hands and feet, it depends on the surface area and the extent of sweating, so we tell you during the examination. Injections in the hands can affect grip strength, so when the hands are chosen we set the area more carefully.

  • The palms are sensitive, so many people find them more painful than the underarms. Ways to reduce the pain are explained during the consultation. The palms and soles have thicker skin, so the injection can hurt more there, and injecting the hands can rarely weaken grip strength for a while. If your work needs delicate use of your hands, such as playing an instrument or precision work, please tell us in advance.

  • Among the adverse reactions in the approved labelling, increased sweating outside the underarms has been reported. If it increases enough to bother you, let us know. If you sweat all over your body or your sweating has suddenly increased recently, other causes need to be checked first, so please tell us about such changes too.

  • Some people feel there is less odour as sweating decreases, but Hyperhidrosis Botox is not a treatment for odour. If odour is your main concern, we discuss that separately. The injection does not remove sweat glands but only lowers their activity for a while, so sweating returns once the effect wears off.

  • It takes a few days to about 2 weeks for sweating to start decreasing, so if a sweaty season or an important event is coming up, it’s best to have it with plenty of time to spare. How long reduced sweating lasts differs by area and by person, and the next injection is decided when sweating increases again. On the day of the injection, do not apply antiperspirant or remove hair at that spot, and avoid saunas.
